Step 1. On the bottom battleship board, students will decide where to put their battleships. Students can show where their ships are on the board by placing an "X" in the square. Ships can go horizontal or vertical, but not diagonal.
Ships: Un porte-avions (aircraft-carrier) --> 5 spaces
Un cuirassé (battleship) --> 4 spaces
Un sous-marin (submarine) --> 3 spaces
Un croiseur (cruiser) --> 3 spaces
Un contre-torpilleur (destroyer) --> 2 spaces
Step 2. a) In partners, students will take turns calling out coordinates (e.g., B - 4). Students will then shade in the square that was called (so they know not to call it again).
b) Students will keep track of the coordinates that they call out, on the board that is titled "Bateaux de mon adversaire." On the board titled "Mes bateaux," the students will keep track of what their partner calls out.
Step 3. If the coordinate that is being called is a space that contains a ship, the student is to call out "touché," but if it is an empty square, then the student is to say "manqué." Additionally, if a ship is sunk (all the squares for that ship have been hit), then the student says "touché et coulé."
Step 4. These steps continue until one person's ships have all been sunk. The other person (who sunk all the ships) is the winner!
