Step 1. Set up chairs in a circle. You will set up one less chair than the number of students participating in the game. As the teacher, you will tell the students what word or word category they will listen for. This word or word category can be chosen from the provided transcript.
For example, students may have to listen for a number, or a descriptive adjective, or a category of words like fruits and vegetables.
Step 2. Start the audio recording. Whenever students hear the desired word or word category, they must sit down on a chair as quickly as possible. The last student without a chair is out.
Step 3. Start the game again but remove a chair from the circle prior to starting.* You can continue with the same word or word category or choose a new one.
*You should always have one less chair than the number of students who are playing.
Step 4. The game continues until there is one student remaining.
Adaptations:
1. For an easier game, choose the 'Jardin' recording and a specific word.
2. For more of a challenge, choose the 'Quartier' recording and a word category.
Assessment:
This is a great game to assess students' listening comprehension and knowledge of particular vocabulary.
