Step 1. Divide the class into small groups, preferably groups of 5 students. Distribute clue cards and answer cards to the groups. Each set should have 5 cards - one answer card and 4 clue cards. Choose a host for each group.
Step 2. The host will keep the answer card, without showing it to the rest of the group. The host will then pass one clue card to each student.
Step 3. Students with clue cards will take turns reading their clue aloud to the group. After all the clues have been read aloud, the students with clue cards will try to guess what the clues are describing.*
* The descriptions can be for new vocabulary that they are learning in class or even for new concepts that they may have learnt. The clues will be created by the teacher at his/her discretion.
Step 4. The host will not participate in the guessing. The host will only be able to respond with "Oui" (yes) or "Non" (no), to the students' guesses. This will continue until a student guesses correctly. Choose a new host for the next round.
Adaptations:
1. For beginners have extra clues set aside for each word, in case they are not able to guess the word with only four clues. They could also be given a list of words from which to guess.
Assessment:
This game would be an excellent opportunity to assess students' reading and their knowledge of vocabulary.
