STATUE is a movement and improvisation game. Students will learn to associate their pose to a French verb.
Instructions:
There are no materials needed for this activity.
Game Option One:
Step 1. Play music and have the students walk around the classroom.
Step 2. Stop the music and have the students make a pose and freeze.
Step 3. Go around and ask students to explain what they are doing (which is in relation to their pose).
Step 4. Go back to step 1 and repeat to start a new round. The number of rounds for the game can be determined by the teacher.
Game Option Two (Classroom management strategy):
Step 1. Say, "Statue!" randomly in the class which will trigger students to get up and quickly choose a pose to freeze in.
Step 2. Choose a few students to explain what they are doing (in relation to their pose).
*Note: All explanations should be done in French
Adaptations:
1. For lower level students, provide a theme to guide poses (e.g., animals 'animaux') and have students provide simple explanations, even providing just an article, noun and verb (e.g., 'the lion roars' 'le lion rugit' or 'the bunny hops' 'le lapin saut' ).
2. To make this game more challenging, have students explain "where" they are.
Assessment:
This is a great activity to assess creativity and students' ability to provide explanations on the spot.
